Getting there & getting around
Take the train to Bischofshofen, Pfarrwerfen or Werfen, then the W³ shuttle to your door. You can get around the village without a car, too.
By train
The nearest stations are Bischofshofen (all trains stop here), Pfarrwerfen (regional trains) and Werfen. From there, the W³ shuttle takes you to the door of your accommodation in Werfenweng, free of charge with the Guest Mobility Ticket (see below).
- WESTbahn runs direct trains from Vienna Westbahnhof to Werfen and Bischofshofen, with no change needed.
- For help with train travel to the Pongau, the MOBILITO mobility centre at Bischofshofen station can assist.
By car
Werfenweng is about 45 kilometres south of Salzburg and easy to reach via the A10 Tauern motorway:
- From Salzburg/Munich: take the Werfen exit, drive through Imlau to Pfarrwerfen and on to Werfenweng.
- From Villach: take the Pfarrwerfen/Werfen exit; Werfenweng is 4 kilometres away.
On peak travel days, the tourist board recommends alternative routes, for example from eastern Austria via the A9, Liezen and the Enns valley to Radstadt/Altenmarkt and Bischofshofen. Once you arrive, you can leave the car parked for your whole stay.
Getting around
W³ shuttle
The W³ shuttle has served the three villages of Werfenweng, Pfarrwerfen and Werfen since 2018. This shared, on-demand taxi picks you up at any address in the three villages and takes you to a fixed destination such as a village centre or station, and back again. There is also a connection to Bischofshofen station.
- Guests with a Werfenweng Card ride for free.
- Skiers ride free from Werfen, Pfarrwerfen and Bischofshofen stations to the ski area while the lifts are running.
- The shuttle won the Energy Globe Award Salzburg in 2023.
Guest Mobility Ticket
Since 1 May 2025, overnight guests anywhere in the province of Salzburg receive the Guest Mobility Ticket. It covers all public transport in the province from your day of arrival to your day of departure, free of charge.
- Your host gives you the ticket at check-in, on paper or digitally as a PDF or wallet pass.
- If you complete a pre-check-in, it is already valid on your journey from the Salzburg provincial border.
- Children under 6 travel free anyway, and one dog per person rides free.
- The ticket is paid for by a mobility levy of 50 cents per night during the introductory phase.
Renting an electric car
If you do need a car, you can rent an electric car (Cupra Born) from the tourist board. You reserve it with a form on werfenweng.eu, then pay and pick up the car-sharing card at the tourist office. Rates according to werfenweng.eu (as of September 2026), including kilometres, first charge and motorway vignette:
