A popular destination is the Anton-Proksch-Haus at 1,585 metres, a volunteer-run self-catering hut of the Naturfreunde club. In 2026 it was named "Hut of the Year".
On the alpine pastures: take care around cattle
Cows graze the high pastures in summer. The key rules:
- Keep your distance, and don't feed or startle the animals.
- Keep dogs on a short lead, but let go immediately if a cow attacks.
- Stay on the trail and give cattle a wide berth.
- Close gates behind you and cross pastures quickly.
Lifts
The Ikarus gondola goes up to 1,835 metres, and the Dorfbahn Rosnerköpfl starts in the middle of the village and runs up to 1,154 metres. According to ORF Salzburg, more and more visitors ride up to the Bischlinghöhe in summer, and local businesses are planning mountain golf and an upgraded summer toboggan run.
Flying and events
The Bischling has long been considered one of the best paragliding areas in Austria. In August 2026, for example, it hosted the WANDERBIRD Trophy hike-and-fly race and the 9th IKARUS Open, an international cross-country flying event.
Weekly programme
In summer, the tourist board runs a weekly programme with guided hikes, e-bike tours and alpaca walks. It is free for guests staying in Werfenweng.
