Austria's national trail-running team kicks off its 2026 season in Werfenweng
Around 20 athletes from the ÖLV Trail Running Team Austria met in Werfenweng in April for their season opening camp: training sessions, a talk on doping controls and a long run into the Tennengebirge.
In April 2026, Austria's top trail runners gathered in Werfenweng. Around 20 athletes from the ÖLV Trail Running Team Austria came to the aja Bergresort for the official season opening team camp. They were welcomed by Josef Holzmann of the tourist board and AJA Werfenweng general manager Patrick Matern.
Training and education
According to the Austrian Athletics Federation (ÖLV), the camp was about more than running. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) briefed the athletes on their rights during doping controls and on using medication and supplements responsibly. Isabell Speer, who has competed at the Hyrox World Championships, led sessions on recovery and core stability.
Athletes at the camp included Hans-Peter and Manuel Innerhofer, Josef Bodner, Sebastian Falkensteiner and Philipp Brugger. The women's team includes Isabell Speer, Amelie Muss, Claudia Rosegger, Isabell Bichler and Nora Havlinova.
A long run to a record holder's hut
The highlight was a long run in the Tennengebirge on Saturday. It led to "Minimal:isst", the hut of Jakob Herrmann, a former ski mountaineer and trail runner who now runs the hut. He served coffee, homemade cake and vegetarian dishes. After the runners' visit, Herrmann locked up and closed the hut for the winter season.
Eyes on the European Championships
In the evening, the team studied the courses of the European Athletics Off-Road Championships in Kamnik, Slovenia, on 5–7 June 2026, including a first look at the new 50-kilometre trail course.
